My first experience of harassment at KEGS was prior to my acceptance at the open day. I visited as a year 11 student and was taken into a classroom as part of the guided tour. A year 11 boy shouted, mid-lesson, “she’s fit”. This was a really uncomfortable situation for me as a lot of the boys in the class proceeded to laugh. I was embarrassed and self-conscious as I’d just been cat-called in a school I was hoping and excited to be accepted into, in front of potential peers, teachers and in front of my dad. My dad was appalled at the time. The teacher did little except tell boys to stop laughing. I would eventually learn that this behaviour, and much much worse was unfortunately the complete norm at KEGS. There was probably a day-to-day occurrence of sexual harassment and objectification completely unchecked by any teachers.
