I was a girl at KEGS from 2010-2012.
It was so clear that sexual attractiveness equated to popularity, and girls were constantly discussed in terms of their desirability, often in graphic detail. Even when girls were achieving on par and above the standard of their male counterparts, they were rarely mentioned in terms that were not grossly objectifying. At one point a list was made – by one of the girls actually – ranking each girl in the year in order of their attractiveness. As far as I’m aware, no girls ever stood up to this behaviour or challenged the culture; in fact, we all joined in as this was simply how things were and questioning it would only lead to you being the target of abuse.
